CIT 140 General Assignment Directions
By reading and following these directions you should find success in completing assignments for this course.
1. All assignments, when submitted, must follow the name given in the text being used.
2. All data files, except for Internet-based assignments, are located in the downloadable 140 Data Files. The links to download these files are found in the syllabus under materials as well as in the dropdown menu on blainerobertson.net under School>CIT140>Access Data Files or Excel Data Files, or below:
3. You should create a folder named 140 Assignments where you store your data. All work from the class should be saved to this folder and within subfolders that correspond to the class modules: Windows, Excel and Access. This will make it easy to find your work when submitting it or going back to check previous work.
4. The texts will frequently give directions to print a file or document. DO NOT PRINT any files for submission. However, do follow directions to Print Preview. The ability to manipulate print instructions for files is valuable; when finished click Cancel instead of print.
5. If assignments call for you to answer questions as part of an exercise then create a text file, label each question clearly, provide your answers and submit it with the assignment. Be sure to include your name, section name and date in the file, as well as the name of the assignment.
6. Assignments must be submitted through iLearn (formerly Blackboard). Go to the Assignments screen and click the appropriate assignment link to submit work. Write a message if desired, browse to find the file to submit (it should be in your 140 assignments folder), then click the "Add Another File" button to attach the homework file. When the file is shown, then repeat the steps to attach another file, or click the "Submit" button to submit the homework for grading. If you need to submit a folder, the folder must be zipped before it can be submitted using iLearn. Be sure that the file being attached is the correct one and has been named properly (see #1 above).
Violation of any
of the above rules will result in a penalty of up to 100% for
the assignment.
7. Working at home. You will need MS Office 2007 Professional (with Access) to complete all assignments. You must realize that working from home requires good reading and problem solving skills. If you are close to campus you are also welcome to use the CIT Department labs on the 4th floor of the Smith were a lab assistant can help you during open lab times.
